Download vCardJohn has extensive experience in corporate, tax and securities law matters, mergers and acquisitions and commercial business transactions.
John represents clients regarding all aspects of entity formation, debt and private equity financing, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and commercial business transactions. He also devotes a significant portion of his time advising clients on a wide range of tax matters, including partnership and S corporation tax issues, as well as representing clients before federal and state taxing authorities.
John serves as an adjunct professor of law at Wake Forest University, where he has taught courses in business planning, partnership taxation, and corporate taxation. He has also presented at several seminars on topics covering choice of entity and mergers and acquisitions.
John is a former shareholder and director with Bell, Davis & Pitt. He is currently serving as Treasurer of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Business Law Section and is a past Secretary and council member of the Business Law Section. He is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, in the tax, business law and sports & entertainment sections.
John graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1982, with distinction, with a bachelor of science in administration. He received his J.D. in 1985 from Wake Forest University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1987.
He is recognized as a member of the Legal Elite, as rated by Business North Carolina magazine, and continues to be included in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers.
John has been an active volunteer as an officer and board member for Twin City Youth Soccer Association for whom he has also coached several girls and boys youth soccer teams, and was named as the North Carolina Challenge Girls Coach of the Year in 2010. John now serves as the Executive Vice-President of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association. John has also been active in coaching numerous youth basketball teams through the YMCA and his Church.
