John
has extensive experience in corporate, tax and securities law
matters, mergers and acquisitions and commercial business
transactions.
John represents clients regarding all aspects of entity
formation, debt and private equity financing, corporate
governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and
commercial business transactions. He also devotes a significant
portion of his time advising clients on a wide range of tax
matters, including partnership and S corporation tax issues, as
well as representing clients before federal and state taxing
authorities.
John has served as an adjunct professor of law at Wake Forest
University for several years, where he has taught courses in
business planning and partnership taxation. He has also
presented at several seminars on topics covering choice of
entity and mergers and acquisitions.
John is a former shareholder and director with Bell, Davis &
Pitt. He has served as secretary of the North Carolina Bar
Association’s Business Law Section and as a council member of
the Business Law Section. He is also a member of the North
Carolina Bar Association, in both the tax and business law
sections.
John graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1982,
with distinction, with a bachelor of science in administration.
He received his J.D. in 1985 from Wake Forest University, where
he graduated magna cum laude, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New
York University in 1987.
He is recognized as a member of the Legal Elite, as rated by
Business North Carolina magazine, and is included in the
2006 and 2007 editions of The Best Lawyers in America.
