Stephen has extensive experience in commercial real estate matters, including representation of buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants of commercial properties, and in matters related to commercial property financing.

Stephen also is experienced in commercial transactions and general contract matters.

Stephen attended The University of Virginia, where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with high distinction in 1981. He received his juris doctorate from The University of Virginia School of Law in 1984.

Stephen is the former senior counsel of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts where he also served as a vice president and assistant secretary. While at Krispy Kreme, he handled a wide range of matters affecting a closely held corporation and then later issues affecting a large corporation with locations nationwide. Stephen has extensive experience negotiating vendor and third party contracts. Prior to his employment at Krispy Kreme, Stephen practiced with Kilpatrick Stockton law firm in its Winston-Salem real estate department.

Stephen is rated AV by Martindale Hubbell and in 2007 was recognized as a member of the Legal Elite as rated by Business North Carolina magazine.

Stephen has been involved in numerous charitable endeavors and is a past chairman of the board of Piedmont Land Conservancy, and a past president and chairman of the board of Christmas Cheer Toyshop and Clearinghouse.
